In today’s writing session, one of my characters offhandedly said something that I added in without any thought. I meant it as a throw-away comment only there to make the conversation feel natural. But after writing it, I realized that this filler sentence held the clue to the dramatic climax at the end of the book.
I had meant the first four chapters as set up, getting the main character into place and putting her in a situation that runs up and down hill to the inevitable (but not obvious I hope) ending. That I’ve managed to slide in the answer to the Big Bad Situation that she’ll face ten chapters from now is icing on the cake.
I love when my subconscious knows more than I do.
Today’s Lunch: Tortilla de Patata. It was going to be a duck and hummus salad, but it was someone’s birthday at work and she bought us a fresh thick potato omelette from the bar below to celebrate.
